Old window turned picture frame

I actually had plans to share a little bit about our room redo today but I had an unfortunate accident with a pair of scissors while cutting flowers from the yard yesterday so I didn't get a chance to take the photos I was hoping to. I do have something for all of you old window lovers though.

I love old windows. We are lucky enough around here to have them all over the place so they are very inexpensive. I have several in my garage just waiting for the fun things I have planned for them. When I was visiting my sis in California several months ago we looked everywhere for an old window.  We finally found this one just a few days before I left and decided to hang it in her front hallway. Today I'm going to show you how to attach it to the wall.

Materials:
  • Two D-ring large picture hangers like these with included screws
  • Phillips screw driver
  • Pen or pencil for marking
  • Tape measure or ruler
  • Picture hanging wire
  • Screws with anchors for wall (to hold 50 lbs or more)

First I measured down the same distance on each side of the window (you want it to be above the halfway point but not so far up that the wire will show when hung) and marked it with a marker. Then I screwed the hardware into the back of the frame by hand.

I tied metal picture wire to each of the rings and slipped that over the screws in the wall. You could also just use the rings and hang them directly onto the screws you just have to make sure you have the screws perfectly aligned on the wall so the window is level. If you do not plan to put paper into the glass you will need to just use the rings otherwise the wire will show through the window.

We used two screws with anchors just to be safe and looped the wire over both of them.

Using scrapbook paper she already had I cut each piece to fit the size of the glass, taped the picture to the middle and taped the paper to the back of the window. It will be easy for her to switch it up for the seasons or as they update their photos.

Here are a few other ways I've used old windows. Click on the link below each picture for details.

How do you use old windows? If you've blogged about old windows please share your link with me in the comment section. I'd love to take a look!
